Black Metal is currently in a state of Infinite Grace that cannot be denied. The most beautiful thing about all of this is seeing how genres evolve and expand, feed off each other, merge, integrate or even disintegrate to be painfully reborn in the form of other musical languages capable of reaching where others either don\u2019t know how to reach or don\u2019t dare to.<\/span><\/p>\n That\u2019s what happens with Poltergeist<\/strong>, which have the classic Black Metal bases, but it possesses a unique language that no one has been able to explore and incorporate before: Ghostly Psycophonies.<\/span><\/p>\n After knowing that their songs included real spectral voices, I get in touch with Apparition<\/strong>, Poltergeist<\/strong>\u2019s leader, who very kindly accepted my invitation and this is what he told me.<\/span><\/p>\n Warning: maybe not everyone is ready to delve into this field, but it\u2019s worth it.<\/span><\/p>\n Kat: First of all, thank you so much for taking the time to answer V\u2019N\u2019MATW\u2019s questions.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Poltergeist begins in 2023. But why did you start Poltergeist? What\u2019s your inspiration for this ambitious project?<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Apparition: Poltergeist<\/strong>, also known as Poltergeist-Apparition<\/strong>, was founded as a solo project by Apparition<\/strong> in the United States around 2023, focusing on Black Metal and Black Noise. The project\u2019s name came from the overwhelming number of paranormal experiences I\u2019ve had throughout my life. One of the scariest is an \u2018attachment\u2019 (Editor\u2019s note<\/em><\/strong>: These are disembodied spirits or lost souls, benevolent or not, who attach themselves to living people either to continue in this world or to help them achieve their purpose and rest<\/em>) that I\u2019ve had for many years and that still accompanies me to this day. This attached spirit has shown me the true meaning of fear and terror. Therefore, the only name I found appropriate for this project is Poltergeist<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n K.: I see, it is very scary! <\/em><\/strong>I\u2019ve seen Poltergeist described as Black Metal\/Noise. But what does mean to you \u2018Noise\u2019 musically?<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Apparition: The term Noise is because I use anti-musical frequencies to create a disturbing and uncomfortable atmosphere, similar to the feeling I get when I\u2019m alone and the demonstrations are happening.<\/span><\/p>\n K.: May be <\/em><\/strong>is it more correct to use the definition of Paranormal Black Metal for Poltergeist?<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Apparition: Yes, that\u2019s correct. I\u2019m the first Black Metal paranormal investigator to truly combine Black Metal and the Paranormal in this way. There may be other bands with the same name or who may touch on the subject, but none of them do Black Metal like this. Poltergeist<\/strong> is Paranormal Black Metal.<\/span><\/p>\n K.: <\/em><\/strong>So it\u2019s true that you used authentic psycophonies in your songwriting?<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Apparition: Yes, of course. The project is notable for using real EVPs captured by me, photos of captured apparitions, spirit box recordings during Ouija sessions and subliminal messages about paranormal phenomena.<\/span><\/p>\n K: They\u2019re real experiences, lived firsthand.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Apparition: Definitely. Everything is a real experience. Everything in the music is captured by me. Aside from that, I\u2019m not an average Black Metal band. My lyrics are based in my chilling experiences throughout my life. Everything I write is real; I\u2019ve lived it and I\u2019m still living it. I\u2019ve seen shadow apparitions, things moving on their own, heard voices and footsteps when no one\u2019s around, devices turning on by themselves, felt the paralysis that many refer to as when \u2018the dead person rises\u2019 (Editor’s note<\/em><\/strong>: also known as Sleep Paralysis. It\u2019s a brain disconnection in which the mind remains asleep but the muscles move on their own<\/em>) and many more things in my home. All of this leads me to writing and composing material for Poltergeist<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n K.: <\/em><\/strong>And all this material you use to compose, where or when did you record it?<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Poltergeist-Apparition (by Kat S.F. 31\/05\/25)<\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/div>\n Apparition: I\u2019ve recorded these Paranormal Events in many places: at home, in cemeteries and in abandoned places. Most of the truly intense experiences happen at home. Due to my profession, I\u2019ve had many \u2018attachments\u2019 that I welcome to manifest and communicate. I live in a former rehabilitation center, hospital and almshome that was converted into apartments. There have been many deaths and suicides in this building before it was even used as an apartment building.<\/span><\/p>\n K.: So it’s normal that there are so many energies flowing in different ways. Returning to the most tangible part of the band, Poltergeist is currently a One-Man-Band. And this means that you take care to all the musical section and vocals. Is it easier for you to manage it alone than dealing with other musicians to explain what you want?<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Apparition: It\u2019s a lot easier to work alone than it is to work with other people. This may be a new project, but I\u2019ve been playing black metal for fifteen years, been in many bands, and find that my level of dedication is always stronger than that of others.<\/span><\/p>\n K.: <\/em><\/strong>But do you play all the instruments or are some of them programmed?<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Apparition: I play all the instruments, although with the drums it\u2019s a combination of both. I combine my drum parts with programming so everything can have the same EQ live.<\/span><\/p>\n K.: <\/em><\/strong>Currently, you\u2019ve released the demo \u2018Scars of Suicide & Purgatory\u2019 from 2023 and includes just three tracks. Can you tell me a little about what you explore in it?<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Apparition: Yes.<\/span><\/p>\n The first track, \u2018Apparition of the Black Death\u2019 contains a recording of a spirit box during a Ouija session in my home where I\u2019ve experienced sleep paralysis, witnessed full-body apparitions and poltergeist activity. At the end of the first track, a spirit communicates with its \u2018Suicide\u2019 in a woman\u2019s haunting voice through a portable digital recorder (PDR) at a local cemetery.<\/span><\/p>\n In the second track, \u2018Acinorev\u2019, the spirit reveals her name \u2018Veronica\u2019 with a chilling breath through a portable digital recorder (PDR) in the same local cemetery. The title of the song is \u2018Veronica\u2019 spelled backward.<\/span><\/p>\n The third and final track, \u2018Suicide and Purgatory\u2019, is a Noise\/Ambient track that combines the two PDRs from the previous tracks and the PDR communicating \u2018I am a suicide\u2019 captured from the same female voice through a portable digital recorder (PDR) in the same local cemetery.<\/span><\/p>\n The album art features photos of Veronica\u2019s grave and the cemetery where the EVPs were captured, along with an image of an apparition in a window, captured in a separate location.<\/span><\/p>\n K.: <\/em><\/strong>And how do you organize yourself to compose those type of songs, where there are such esoteric elements within? Do you work around those elements or do you compose the basic music and vocals and then incorporate them?<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Apparition: It depends on the song. Most of the time, I make sure I have an EVP ready before writing the guitar and drums. At the same time, it\u2019s extremely difficult to obtain this type of material. It takes a long time to capture an EVP clear enough to use. So I\u2019m always writing guitar parts, and once I\u2019m ready, I put it all together.<\/span><\/p>\n K.: I see. And <\/em><\/strong>are you already working on new songs to release your debut album?<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Apparition: I have new songs and the cover art for the full debut album. But before I start working on finishing the debut album, I\u2019ll be releasing a follow-up EP to Scars of Suicide<\/em>. I have three new songs for this new EP, which will be released on CD and a vinyl compilation with both EPs, one on each side.<\/span><\/p>\n K.: <\/em><\/strong>We will be attentive, then. Let\u2019s talk about live performances. With this esoteric conception of BM, with this obvious paranormal touch, does the audience understand your proposal or not?<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Apparition: Well, so far the response to the project has been positive. I\u2019d like to do more interviews like this one or videos so everyone understands what Poltergeist is all about. Very soon, I\u2019ll be sharing videos of my spirit hunts so viewers can see firsthand how terrifying it is to capture this type of footage on my YouTube channel. So I hope everyone reading this will subscribe to the channel and like the social media pages.<\/span><\/p>\n K.: <\/em><\/strong>And have you thought about bringing session musicians for your live performances?<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Apparition: I always have that thought in mind, but until I can find people and musicians with the right mindset and who are professionals, above all, it\u2019s a possibility. For now, I\u2019m alone.<\/span><\/p>\n K.: Yeah, it\u2019s quite complex. You were recently on SPN supporting Anal Vomit and The Laws Kill Destroy x Sarc\u00f3fago. How did this opportunity come about?<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Apparition: Yes, Spain was an incredible experience and a really cool place to perform. I\u2019m very good friends with Incubus<\/strong> from Sarc\u00f3fago<\/strong>, assisting directly as their manager and making it possible for them to come and perform. All of this was also possible thanks to Vision of Death Booking<\/strong> and Mythological Mayhem<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n K.: At VLC, in the second show, you sang the song \u2018Nightmare\u2019 with TLKD. What was the experience like sharing the stage with them?<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Apparition: Yes, that\u2019s wright. We shared the stage with them in VLC and I collaborated as a guest vocalist on \u2018Nightmare\u2019 which was the closing song of their set. I\u2019ve shared the stage with the band several times, and it\u2019s an absolute honor for me to be alongside the founder of Sarc\u00f3fago<\/strong> and of Black Metal as we know it today.<\/span><\/p>\n K.: Honestly, with your vocal range, the song really lifted the mood because it better suited the intensity of the song. And finally, how does the rest of the year look for Poltergeist?<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Apparition: To finish out the year, I\u2019ll be touring with Incubus<\/strong> and TLKD<\/strong> this November for a tour of South America. I\u2019ll be doing one or two shows in the US on my own, but overall, I\u2019ll be primarily touring with TLKD<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n K.: Great news. If you want to add anything else, feel free to do so.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Apparition: The fans we have are for life. They recognize that Poltergeist<\/strong> is a Legitimate project with evidence of paranormal experiences.
